The transfer noise is only going to get louder and louder from the Celtic fans.
This follows Celtic’s defeat to Ajax in the Como Cup on Thursday evening, which probably further exposed how Brendan Rodgers’ squad needs added quality.
The 2025 summer transfer window has been open for over a month now, and the new Premiership campaign is around the corner.
Celtic have signed seven players in total, but several of those new faces have been project-like signings or players with very little experience, including the two strikers Callum Osmand and Shin Yamada.
Rodgers wants to add more goals to his team, and is the answer in the form of a free agent?

Jamie Vardy backed to score goals at Celtic
Everyone has seen how Kieran Tierney has lifted the Celtic dressing room following his return this summer, and Peter Grant thinks Jamie Vardy could do the same.
Speaking on Go Radio, the former Hoops star is in no doubt that Vardy, who turned 38 in January, can still score goals in Scotland after leaving Leicester City this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.
Grant noted that Vardy is a ‘quality, quality player’, and believes the Englishman has ‘exuberance’ that would ‘lift’ everyone around him.
“I think whoever gets Jamie Vardy, it’s not as if he is one of these guys who has lost his pace as he has got older,” said Grant.
“He proved that last year again. I thought he was excellent. His attitude. He has got that exuberance that lifts everybody else around you. Sometimes, you don’t realise how important that is. I feel that in a dressing room. The likes of Kieran (Tierney) going back in the dressing room. That’s a big boost for the players.
“But seeing a couple of guys like that coming in, as you say, a Jamie Vardy or somebody like that coming through the door. People say, ‘he is at a certain age.’ Please, believe me, he would still score goals in Scotland; there is absolutely no doubt in my mind about that.
“I think he may be just sitting back waiting to see what’s the biggest club that is coming in for me. What’s the one that is going to give me a challenge? You never know. Vardy will score wherever he goes. If he stays clear of injury, he will score goals.
“Do defenders like playing against him? Absolutely not. He is a quality, quality player. He has proven it time and time again.”
Vardy’s record under Brendan Rodgers
One other positive to note is that Vardy has played under Rodgers before, when the Irishman made that infamous call to leave Celtic for Leicester in 2019.
Of course, Vardy is famous for winning the Premier League title with the Foxes in 2016, when Claudio Ranieri was in charge, but he also won the FA Cup under Rodgers.
- Vardy’s games under Rodgers: 157
- Goals: 70
- Assists: 31
