‘He will score goals there’ – Jeff Stelling says it’s a ‘no-brainer’ for striker to join Celtic

You just wonder if Celtic fans have to wait until the end of the window for that proven striker to arrive this summer.

Celtic have signed Callum Osmand from Fulham, but he is yet to make a senior appearance, and is only a teenager still learning the game.

Perhaps, the powers that be at Celtic Park are waiting for the club to book their Champions League ticket for next season before going all-out on that striker.

Brendan Rodgers will need to manage some qualifiers before entering the newly revamped league phase, which Celtic got a taste of last season and reached the play-off stage.

If that happens, then Jeff Stelling thinks an out-of-contract striker is there for them to sign.

Jeff Stelling says Dominic Calvert-Lewin signing for Celtic is a ‘no-brainer’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a free agent after leaving Everton when his contract at Goodison Park expired on June 30.

Stelling thinks it’s a ‘no-brainer’ for the 28-year-old to sign for Celtic, including how he would ‘score goals’ under Rodgers.

The talkSPORT presenter also explained how, from Calvert-Lewin’s perspective, he can do a job on such a big stage and then make a return to the English Premier League down the line.

“Swipe right, for me,” agreed Stelling on Calvert-Lewin moving to Celtic. “I think it’s an absolute no-brainer.

“A no-brainer. To get him on a free transfer. Okay, the wages will be big. We know he can play. We know he can play!

“So, if they can keep him fit, and I think it’s a good move for him, because he will score goals there. Regain his confidence.

“And I wouldn’t be surprised, you have got European football, and it’s not being disrespectful, because Celtic are a massive club. Massive games. A couple of years time, back in the Premier League.”

Calvert-Lewin’s career stats

Calvert-Lewin has represented four clubs in his career, all in England, including starting his journey with Sheffield United.

The Sheffield-born striker also spent a loan period at an English side aptly named Stalybridge Celtic, but his best work was done in the colours of Everton.

Injuries have disrupted and harmed Calvert-Lewin’s progression, but when the hard-hitting striker has been on it, he has been outstanding, and also earned England caps, including for Euro 2020.
