The name Larsson is legendary in Celtic folklore.
You perhaps sympathise with any striker that represents Celtic or any player from Sweden because they are instantly going to be compared with Henrik Larsson himself.
Neil Lennon, amongst many, regards Larsson as Celtic’s greatest ever player, as his tenure in Glasgow is still talked about today.
Many great forwards have put on the green and white colours, but nobody has surpassed Larsson’s legacy, and nobody probably ever will.
But with the 2025 summer transfer window wide open, Celtic’s third senior signing of the summer was added – Benjamin Nygren – and he hails from Sweden.

Jordan Larsson and others react to Benjamin Nygren joining Celtic
Celtic love a comeback. Kieran Tierney has returned to Celtic, goalkeeper Ross Doohan has also come back from Aberdeen, as well as an off-field return for former winger, Shaun Maloney.
So, you could argue that the signing of Nygren is Brendan Rodgers’ first proper fresh new face added to the Celtic squad this summer.
The 23-year-old, who joined from FC Nordsjælland, took to social media to express his delight at his move to the champions of Scotland, and he was greeted with some welcoming messages, including from the son of the King of Kings, Jordan Larsson.
- Jordan Larsson: ‘Congratulations, brother. 🙌🏽’
- Bologna’s Emil Holm: ‘Congratulations, my beloved brother. ❤️❤️’
- Bran winger Mads Kristian Hansen: ‘Let’s go 🔥. Paradise. 🥰’
- Swedish midfielder Herman Sjögrell: “Awesome. Run it.’
- Nordsjælland midfielder Ascone Rocco: ‘Congratulations, my friend. I wish you all the best.’
- Swedish defender Eric Kahl: ‘A big congratulations.’
Who leaves Celtic following Nygren’s arrival?
Rodgers needed added quality out wide, regardless, but it does seem as though there could be an exit in the form of Nicolas Kuhn.
Despite Kuhn’s drop in form in 2025, he still managed to produce an outstanding campaign overall and help Celtic win the double.
But many clubs have been linked to Kuhn’s signature, as Celtic seek £17 million for the German’s talents.

- Newcastle United
