SC Braga face competition to sign Celtic’s Gustaf Lagerbielke with EFL Championship sides ‘interested’

It’s safe to say Gustaf Lagerbielke is on Celtic’s transfer exit list this summer.

Sky Sports recently named the five players Celtic want to offload, with the Swedish defender being one of them.

Lagerbielke enjoyed a decent loan spell with FC Twente last season in the Eredivisie, but their technical director confirmed he won’t be signed permanently.

So Lagerbielke will return to Lennoxtown for pre-season – that’s if SC Braga haven’t yet signed the player before July 1.

SC Braga make £1.7m bid for Celtic’s Lagerbielke

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that Portuguese outfit Braga have lodged a £1.7m transfer bid for Celtic’s Lagerbielke.

Negotiations between Braga and Celtic are said to be ongoing over this bid, with Lagerbielke keen on moving to the Liga Portugal club.

Celtic signed Lagerbielke for £3m in the summer of 2023, and they would be on track to record a £1.3m loss if Braga’s initial bid is accepted.

Brendan Rodgers made a number of poor signings during the summer 2023 transfer window, including the likes of Kwon Hyeok-kyu and Marco Tilio.

EFL Championship teams also keen on Lagerbielke

But Braga will face serious competition, certainly from a financial perspective, in their hopes of landing Lagerbielke this summer.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph confirmed Romano’s earlier news, stating Celtic are indeed in talks with Braga.

However, a number of EFL Championship clubs are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old from Stockholm.

No English sides were named in Joseph’s update, but you would imagine whoever they are would be able to financially outmuscle Braga.
