How Celtic used Rangers as bait to try and tempt Michael Noonan to Parkhead

Celtic apparently pulled out all the stops to land Michael Noonan and the Parkhead club even used Rangers as bait to do so.

The young Shamrock Rovers striker is a wanted man as Celtic look to sign Noonan from the League of Ireland side.

Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Noonan as well as Bundesliga side Hoffenheim as Celtic face stiff competition to land the Irish wonderkid.

Is the Irish market ideal for Celtic?

However, in an attempt to convince Noonan to come to Paradise, Celtic even used Rangers as bait to sell a move to the Glasgow giants.

Shamrock Rovers allowed Michael Noonan as Celtic’s guest vs Rangers

Celtic went all out at the Glasgow Derby as Noonan was made a guest of honour by the club to watch the defeat to Rangers.

But that is not all Celtic did.

A report from The Irish Examiner explained, “Rovers had no issue with Noonan and his family being guests of Celtic for the recent New Year’s Day Old F-rm derby against Rangers.

“Paul Tisdale was sacked, along with manager Wilfried Nancy, two days after that defeat but the club’s interest in the player has continued in the absence of the operations lead.”

Will it have worked? Celtic fans will just need to sit, watch and wait.

Is Michael Noonan a future Celtic striker?

At just 17, Noonan is clearly a striker Celtic have identified for the future.

With 51 games under his belt and 12 goals, it’s clear that even at this early stage of his career, Noonan has a keen eye for goal and potential to develop.

While it is commendable that Celtic are trying to future-proof their scoring options, Martin O’Neill needs a ready-made striker now.

Let’s hope the Celtic recruitment department has one identified, because looking at the team right now, the Hoops boss really needs one.
