One thing is for certain: Kyogo Furuhashi won’t be returning to Celtic this summer.
The Japan star has left Birmingham City after one season, and he is moving to the MLS, where he has signed for LA Galaxy, despite recent rumours that a return to Glasgow could be on the cards.
Ever since Kyogo left Celtic in January 2025, his career has gone off track like not many before, and that was proven by his stint at Birmingham.
A popular social media channel, Second Tier podcast, summed it up by labelling Kyogo as ‘one of the worst signings’ in Championship history.

Kyogo Furuhashi can’t hide from the truth after his Celtic exit
Many were surprised when Kyogo left Celtic midway through the campaign in 2024/25, and it wasn’t very helpful because then-manager Brendan Rodgers was still competing in the Champions League.
But Kyogo opted to join Rennes in France, where he only lasted six months, and he failed to score a goal.
If the 31-year-old thought that experience was bad, well, somehow, he has managed to make it worse during his stint at Birmingham City.
To many people’s surprise, Birmingham, upon their promotion to the Championship last summer, paid £10 million for Kyogo’s talents, with former Celtic man Chris Davies a driving factor behind his signing.
But the brutal truth of the matter is that Kyogo, who only scored one Championship goal, will go down as one of the worst purchases in the league’s history.
‘Kyogo Furuhashi has completed a move to LA Galaxy from Birmingham,’ wrote the Second Tier podcast on social media. ‘A contender for one of the worst signings in Championship history.’
A sad ending for Kyogo after his Celtic exit
Kyogo will forever be a Celtic legend. His goals against Rangers. A Treble-winner under Ange Postecoglou. Those memories will never be forgotten.
But it is rather sad how it has all ended, because his call to leave the champions of Scotland has proven to be a disaster.
Yes, the Hoops haven’t properly replaced him yet, but the fact of the matter is, Martin O’Neill still guided the team to a domestic double last term.
In the meantime, Kyogo has completely and utterly lost his goalscoring touch during the last 18 months, so from that perspective, Celtic sold him just at the right time!
