Brendan Rodgers says he has made it clear to the club that quality is needed in his Celtic team as the Bhoys enter a critical week of the season.
Celtic have signed a number of players this summer but outright upgrades in the starting eleven have been few and far between. With just days left in the summer window, most fans reckon that the team is three or four quality players short of what is required.
And Rodgers has put the ball in the Celtic board’s court with some pretty pointed comments about what he told the club when he first arrived back in Glasgow.
Speaking to The Sunday Mail [27/08 print edition, page 59], the manager said: “We need to improve for sure. I spoke to the club when I came in and, assessing the squad, we need to improve the quality.
“It’s clear if you see the team, if you go back to my first time here the team was fast and dynamic, got through the lines quickly, created and scored goals.
“So this is what we’ll eventually get to. But we’re missing those certain profiles so hopefully we can bring that into the squad and be a lot cleaner and a lot quicker in our play.”
The pressure is now on Head of Recruitment Mark Lawwell and Celtic’s transfer negotiating team to deliver the players that the manager and the fans want.

It’s far from ideal being at this point in the window with so much work left to do.
Nonetheless, it could end up being an exciting week on the transfer front. Luis Palma is set to arrive over the next couple of days, with the potential to add a left-back, defender and goalkeeper too, per the most recent reporting.
It’s time for action, Celtic!
