Celtic’s latest transfer rumour surrounding Louis Munteanu has been addressed by the CR Cluj player.

The former Romania u21 international striker is said to be of interest to the Parkhead club after Celtic’s £6.9m bid for Munteanu was thrown out by Cluj.

French Ligue 1 clubs Lille and Nice are also said to be circling the Celtic target but it appears that the offer made will need to be doubled as Munteanu’s agent looks to get the best deal for the player.

But how does the Cluj striker feel about all the speculation?

Louis Munteanu breaks silence on Celtic rumours after Europa League heroics

Scoring in Cluj’s Europa League qualifying 3-0 win last night, Munteanu was asked about the speculation over his future and he said it’s something he is not focusing on right now.

Munteanu told Romanian media outlet DigiSport, “I don’t know, you have to ask the team owner. I don’t know anything.

“Until there’s something concrete, I’m not interested in words. I was behind in training, I’m fine now, I’m back and I think it was a little obvious that I’m not doing well.

“I want to play in the Romanian championship, for the moment. When it will be necessary for me to go, we will see. These things are beyond me. I feel very good here, I was appreciated from the first minute. I am a happy player here.”

Where Celtic should strengthen next this summer

With Shin Yamada coming to Celtic this summer, if Rodgers adds Munteanu as well, then you would have to imagine the striker position will be filled.

With Jota still out injured and losing Nicolas Kuhn to Como, an argument could be made that Celtic still need two more wingers despite adding Benjamin Nygren.

A back-up left-back is also required despite Hayato Inamura’s addition although he looks more like a centre-back.

There is still plenty of work needing to be done before the window closes as Celtic and Rodgers aim to get the club prepared for the new season ahead.
