Celtic’s summer transfer window is starting to motor.
Brendan Rodgers’ side finished the 2024/25 campaign in disappointment after Aberdeen beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.
Overall, the season was outstanding, and now, Celtic are starting to get the ball rolling, with the 2025 summer transfer window officially open on June 16.
One name has already been confirmed, and that’s the return of Kieran Tierney, as he adds some much-needed quality to the left-hand side.
But now, the champions of Scotland are about to add a player to their ranks who can operate on both flanks.

Watching Celtic transfer target Benjamin Nygren in action
With Jota out injured for the long term, it has left Celtic in a spot of bother, so they have turned to Benjamin Nygren from FC Nordsjælland for some assistance.
Scott Allan has stated that, knowing how Celtic operate in the market, this deal should pretty much get wrapped up.
The former Celtic midfielder also told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, after watching Nygren in action, he reckons Rodgers has an ‘adaptable’ star amongst his ranks.
“I would like to think so (Celtic will have this deal wrapped up),” said Allan. “You know that Celtic, over the years, have had that Swedish connection. A lot of players have come from there and done really well at the club.
“I watched a bit of his footage earlier, and he looked very adaptable in the forward positions. I think when Celtic really want someone, they usually get it done.”
Where did Nygren play for FC Nordsjælland during the 2024/25 season?
Celtic have the injured Jota, free-scoring Daizen Maeda, all-action Nicolas Kuhn, the club’s most decorated player, James Forrest and the inconsistent Yang to pick from on the flanks.
And now you could possibly add Nygren to their list of attacking options, and he had an interesting season last time out.
| Played as… | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Right Winger | 15 | 8 | 3 |
| Left Winger | 8 | 4 | 1 |
| Central Midfield | 4 | 2 | – |
| Attacking Midfield | 2 | 2 | – |
| Centre-Forward | 1 | – | – |
It will be interesting to see how Rodgers uses him, as a lot depends on what happens with Kuhn and Maeda, as well as where the latter plays.
If Kuhn starts off like a house on fire again, then that right-wing spot is his own, and Nygren could be used out left, with Maeda down the middle.
If not, then the Swedish star will have to be patient, and it just further bumps up Celtic’s bench.
