‘I would expect that’- Celtic player backed to leave again this summer despite pre-season form

It’s not too long now until Celtic begin their title defence.

Celtic host St Mirren on August 3, but before all of that, Brendan Rodgers still has some big calls to make about his squad.

To put it simply, it’s a bit bloated, especially in the striker department, despite the Celtic manager wanting to bring in another goalscorer.

Celtic have already signed Callum Osmand and Shin Yamada this summer, not forgetting that Johnny Kenny and Adam Idah are already on the books.

So, what is Rodgers going to do?

Johnny Kenny backed to leave Celtic

Kenny has looked strong in pre-season, including scoring against Newcastle United last time out, as he has been one of the standouts.

But Scott Allan thinks the young Irishman will head for the exit door again, just like he did last summer, as he told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.

“I would expect that,” stated Allan. “I would expect Johnny Kenny to go out on loan.

“In terms of his previous loan at Shamrock Rovers, he proved that he could score, in terms of European competitions.

“Probably, if you are a player, you are a striker and you are young, and you are trying to make an impact. You would want more minutes in the Celtic side.

“So, for me, I would expect him to go out on loan.”

How did Kenny perform on loan at Shamrock Rovers?

As much as Shamrock Rovers would love Kenny to return, at the end of the day, for the player himself, he needs to now take the next step in his career.

That’s either being handed regular chances under Rodgers, or leaving on loan to a league much higher in standard than the League of Ireland Premier Division.

But, given that Celtic have brought in two new faces, added to the fact that Idah was signed for £9 million, and Rodgers wants another striker.

Then, you do worry for Kenny that, despite this form in pre-season, it might not result in him getting what he wants.
