Kieran Tierney’s Arsenal career is now over following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Premier League season on Sunday.
Arsenal were beaten to the title by Liverpool, and now Tierney is expected to return to Celtic on a free transfer when his current deal with the London club expires at the end of June.
That’s one left-back pencilled in for next season, but Brendan Rodgers doesn’t have another concrete name who can fill that position for Celtic.
That’s because Jeffrey Schlupp’s loan spell has ended, on top of the fact that it doesn’t look like Greg Taylor will sign a new contract with the champions of Scotland.
But an interesting name was thrown into the hat on Open Goal.

James McFadden responds to the suggestion Celtic should sign Andy Robertson alongside Kieran Tierney
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is a boyhood Celtic fan, but it was suggested that the Bhoys should sign him alongside Tierney.
But James McFadden feels there isn’t room for Tierney and Robertson because both players will want to be the ‘main player’.
Yes, Celtic need another left-back alongside their returning Treble winner, but McFadden just can’t see it being the man donning Liverpool’s colours.
Derek Ferguson suggested: “Andy Robertson, Faddy, do you think?”
McFadden responded: “I don’t think there is room for Tierney and Robertson, though. Just because the two of them will want to be the main player.
“Greg Taylor will obviously want to be the main player, but he would maybe cope better with the situation. If Andy Robertson leaves Liverpool, it’s because he isn’t a number one.”
Greg Taylor still has ‘a lot to offer’ Celtic
As of this moment, Taylor is heading for the exit door, but nothing has been confirmed regarding his future or what will happen.
Let’s be honest, it would be a surprise if the 27-year-old puts pen to paper on a new Celtic deal, and McFadden thinks only one thing will happen.
“It looks like it (that Taylor is off),” said McFadden. “We have said this before. There is room at Celtic for Tierney and Taylor.
“I think the amount of games they play. The different style of player. Greg Taylor has shown, in a lot of games this season, that he still has a lot to offer.”
