Johan Mjallby has given the thumbs up to Celtic’s reported move for Swedish defender Carl Starfelt.

As discussed earlier, Starfelt to Celtic looks like a goer, with multiple outlets reporting the interest and transfer fee.

It’s even been said he has missed Rubin Kazan training recently to prepare for a move to the Bhoys.

Mjallby knows Starfelt well and has given tremendous insight on his potential signing to The Go Football Radio Show tonight.

He said: “I knew Carl from a young age it took him a while until he found his feet, and he was good enough to play at the highest level. But from Brommapojkarna he moved to Goteborg and he showed he was good enough to play in the Swedish top league, and he has been playing really, really well.

“He’s a laid back guy and he’s a good guy to have in the squad. He always gives 100 per cent. He’s quick and aggressive and decent on the ball.

“If you look at the downfall of Celtic last season they conceded from a lot of set-pieces and crosses that they shouldn’t concede.

“Ajer is going to leave and he is an out and out defender. He can pass the ball, but I think it’s important for Celtic to get guys who love to build a backbone who love to defend for the new manager. That would help them chase Rangers.”

Mjallby knows a bit about Celtic defending – Carl Starfelt sounds promising

Mjallby is probably better placed than anyone to deliver a verdict on Starfelt. He’s clearly followed his career for a long time.

He also knows exactly what is needed at Celtic in terms of defensive strength. The big Swede found great success as a player and coach.

We also know he was watching closely last season despite not being involved. He regularly gave his thoughts on the ill-fated campaign under Neil Lennon.

Let’s hope we can get Starfelt in the door and start moving on to other positions.

Celtic fans are craving a signing. It’s time to deliver!

In other news, Ben Davies reportedly doesn’t want Celtic move.
