Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley continues to court attention this window as speculation rises surrounding his future.
Relatively speaking, the Denmark international looked unaffected by interest yesterday as he played a starring role in the Bhoys’ 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock.
Chelsea are the latest side to be quoted with a desire to sign O’Riley, so reports say, with the 23-year-old said to be on a list of potential replacements for Conor Gallagher should the England international depart for Atletico Madrid.
Atalanta, Southampton and Juventus are also believed to be waiting in the wings, propping up a transfer saga that will likely drag on for the next few weeks before his future is decided. One thing is for certain: Celtic won’t let their star man go for anything below a premium.

Now, Daily Mirror journalist Ryan Taylor has offered an update on the situation and addressed Chelsea’s admiration for the former MK Dons playmaker.
Matt O’Riley latest amid Chelsea links
Taking to social media platform X, Taylor has claimed Chelsea ‘do NOT’ hold an interest in O’Riley despite their hunt for midfield reinforcements as Gallagher looks to be closing in on a move to the Spanish capital.
He stated: “Chelsea do NOT hold an interest in Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley. Atalanta have seen three formal bids rejected for Denmark international. Southampton boss Russell Martin also keen on reunion with former MK Dons player. #CFC #CelticFC.”
In the attached copy, he maintained consistency with his reportage while detailing Gallagher’s agreement on personal terms ahead of a move to Atletico Madrid; however, that doesn’t mean O’Riley will head to Stamford Bridge [Mirror].
Now, that doesn’t mean to say the saga is over; Celtic fans are wary of future developments surrounding the London-born man. Nevertheless, the thought of being able to keep him around for another season at Parkhead is a tantalising one.
With the Champions League ‘league phase’ around the corner, having O’Riley to call upon in clutch moments would be a monumental boost for the club.
He could seek a new challenge elsewhere and would leave with well-wishes; however, the potential of being involved in Europe’s premier competition may be the draw to see him stay put for a little while longer; we will need to wait and see, as frustrating as that is to hear.
