Junior Adamu always looked like a gamble for Celtic, and his limited involvement under Martin O’Neill suggests the club were right not to pursue anything permanent.
Arriving at Celtic in the January transfer window, Adamu’s only real contribution to the season was his dramatic last-minute Scottish Cup goal in the 2-1 win over Dundee back in his debut.
And despite only featuring for Celtic six times, the Daily Record says that reports from Austria are linking Sturm Graz with interest, and a summer exit now feels like the natural outcome for all parties.

The numbers never backed Junior Adamu at Celtic
Adamu arrived after joining Celtic on loan from Freiburg, but he never managed to force himself into Rodgers’ regular plans.
The Celtic striker’s limited involvement tells the story. The Austrian international made just six appearances across all competitions, scoring once and playing only 230 minutes in total.
Only four of those appearances came in the Premiership. For a striker arriving midway through the season, that is a clear indication he was viewed more as cover than a serious long-term option.
O’Neill consistently trusted other attacking players ahead of him, and Celtic simply cannot afford to carry forwards who are not contributing regularly.
A move away from Celtic now makes sense for Adamu
Importantly, Adamu is still contracted to Freiburg, with Celtic only holding an option to buy following the loan agreement.
There has been no indication the Scottish champions planned to trigger that clause, especially with his limited game time at Celtic and a big summer rebuild coming up.
That does not mean Adamu is a poor player. It simply means the move never properly clicked. Celtic already have stronger attacking options, while the player himself needs regular football at this stage of his career.
If Sturm Graz follow up their reported interest, it could be the clean break that suits everybody involved.
