Kasper Dolberg’s move to Midtjylland is on hold for now.
The striker, infamously targeted by Celtic last summer, is already unwanted at Ajax after enduring a nightmare campaign in Holland.
The prospect of Celtic coming back in for Dolberg has been floated, but it remains just a prospect for now. Reports had named FCM as the frontrunners.
However, the move doesn’t look like happening any time soon, with several factors at play.

Midtjylland’s move for Kasper Dolberg is determined by Franculino Dju sale
Scandinavian expert Farzam Abolhosseini has said on Podimo: “If Dolberg goes to FC Midtjylland, he will be really, really expensive.
“It could happen, but I think they are waiting to see if Franculino is going to leave.

“He has to play. Franculino [Dju] has to play, he has to be released for a large sum of millions. Preferably £22 million.”
Dolberg is reportedly valued at £6-7 million this summer, a fair discount on his price tag from last year.
22-year-old striker Dju, on the other hand, is Midtjylland’s star player. He scored in their 3-1 victory over Celtic in the Europa League last November.
Strikers Michael Uhre, Junior Brumado, Friday Etim, Cho Gue-sung and Edward Chilufya are all also still on the books; several will need to be moved on if Dolberg comes in.
FCM’s sporting director Kristian Bach Bak had confirmed talks with Dolberg last week, with a return to Denmark appealing to the striker.
Since completing his big-money move to Amsterdam last summer, he has scored just three league goals in 22 appearances.
Ajax sporting director Danny Blind’s departure was partially down to Dolberg’s signing, such was the extent of the transfer’s ridicule in Holland.

Celtic’s summer business in 2025
Celtic’s erratic summer recruitment in 2025 saw compatriots Shin Yamada and Hayato Inamura described as “club signings” by Rodgers; both were given almost no game time.
Further highlighting a confusing window, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey’s season-long loan yielded just one Celtic start, while £4.5 million acquisition Michel-Ange Balikwisha started just once after September.
The overall strategy, involving figures like Michael Nicholson and Paul Tisdale, reflected poorly on the club’s general transfer process.
Whether we will see a continuation of “club signings” in the future remains to be seen.
