‘Kept him’ – Frank McAvennie thinks Celtic are making a mistake letting go of a ‘really good’ player

It will be interesting to see what this forthcoming summer transfer window brings for Celtic.

On the one hand, the recently concluded campaign was a success for Celtic, as Brendan Rodgers secured a double, but ended in disappointment by losing out on the Treble.

But now, expectations are high, and the Celtic Park faithful will be demanding action, especially in the forward areas following Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit in January.

Rodgers has always spoken about wanting three strikers at the club. Adam Idah is the bonafide central man, whilst Daizen Maeda has worked wonders in that position ever since Kyogo left, and Johnny Kenny is coming through.

One man who made his debut on such a big stage, but won’t be donning the Celtic colours again, is Daniel Cummings.

Daniel Cummings to join West Ham United from Celtic

Cummings made his Celtic debut away at Aston Villa in the Champions League, it proved to be his final and only appearance for the champions of Scotland.

The Celtic youth player is now expected to join West Ham United in the summer, but Frank McAvennie feels that those in green and white should have ‘kept him’.

McAvennie, who has ties with Celtic and West Ham, also wrote on social media how the Hammers are now getting a ‘really good’ player.

‘He’s a great signing for @WestHam,’ said McAvennie. ‘Imo, @CelticFC should have kept him, give 100 percent, and fans will love you. He’s got the potential to be really good, time will tell’.

Not Celtic or Brendan Rodgers’ fault

At the end of the day, Rodgers handed Cummings his debut in the Champions League. On such a big stage.

Yet, he still decided his future lies elsewhere. This isn’t Celtic’s fault, or Rodgers’. But simply how money is talking in today’s game, and those in Scotland can’t compete with teams in England.

You could argue that the likes of Ben Doak, who is at Liverpool, Rocco Vata, playing for Championship side Watford, and even possibly Mikey Johnston, all made moves down south for financial reasons, and you can’t blame them.
