Celtic’s summer transfer business is still affecting the season.

That shouldn’t be the case, but even Brendan Rodgers couldn’t help himself following Celtic’s defeat to Dundee on Sunday.

But whilst Celtic fans continue to protest, and the manager continues to moan about what type of car he has been given to drive.

Kris Boyd thinks there is one summer signing that is already looking like a quality purchase, and that’s Kelechi Iheanacho.

Kelechi Iheanacho is ‘easily worth £5 million’ to Celtic

The issue with the Iheanacho signing was the fact that he arrived after the summer transfer window had slammed shut, and the supporters were already pretty angry and frustrated.

But despite the Nigerian international being a free transfer, Boyd told Chris Sutton, who referenced Celtic’s new forward as a ‘panic buy’, as a ‘shrewd bit of business’ and how he is now ‘easily worth £5 million’, as he told Sky Sports Football.

“I think his link-up play is very good,” said Boyd. “We have seen that many times he has come on. He has added to the game.

“He should have more goals. But I don’t think it phases him. He is a striker who will keep getting himself into positions.

“You wonder, see you (Sutton) said there, ‘he is a panic buy.’ His market worth is probably easily £5 million. If Celtic had gone out and purchased him for £5 million, people probably wouldn’t be asking questions.

“But because it’s right at the end of the transfer window. They brought him in for nothing. ‘Oh, it’s a panic buy and doesn’t seem to be somebody who was on the radar. We wanted to spend a lot of money on a player,’ the Celtic fans will be saying.

“I think he could be a good signing. He is an intelligent player. He has played at a high level. He is coming to the peak of his career now. Peak years. I think he could be a shrewd bit of business from Celtic.”

What’s the biggest transfer fee Iheanacho has been sold for?

If Iheanacho now has a market value of £5 million, it’s a drop from what he was worth during the early part of his career.

The 29-year-old has had his issues in recent years and lost the regular rhythm of playing, including stints at Sevilla and Middlesbrough last season.

But in 2017, after an impressive spell at Manchester City, Iheanacho secured a £25 million transfer from the Etihad to Leicester City.

That road led to Iheanacho playing under Rodgers at the King Power Stadium, including winning the FA Cup.
