Brendan Rodgers watched his Celtic side secure a Friday night win under the lights at Parkhead.

The Hoops produced a comfortable 4-1 victory over Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup second round, thus advancing to the quarter-final stage.

Dane Murray was particularly good at centre-back, and Rodgers praised the youngster after the game for his display.

But while Murray brought a smile to the manager’s face post-victory, the BBC’s Alisdair Lamont certainly did not.

Rodgers delivers frustrated reply to Celtic transfer question

Rodgers spoke to Sportsound live on BBC Radio Scotland and journalist Lamont got the Celtic manager’s take on the win over Falkirk.

The conversation then moved to transfers, with Lamont initially asking Rodgers if he thinks the Bhoys will sign a player before the first leg of the Kairat Almaty Champions League play-off clash.

He said: “I don’t know, I have just come out of the game here. We will wait to see, we have named the squad before the game. if not that is the squad that we are going with.”

Lamont then pushed Rodgers on whether he felt optimistic, but the boss became frustrated and put the journalist in his place.

Rodgers responded: “Ok, let me repeat what I have just said. I have just finished the game. During the 90 odd minutes of the game, I don’t know anything, I don’t know anything.

“There might be, but there may not be, but we have the team that we have.”

Packie Bonner reacts to spiky Rodgers

Speaking immediately after Rodgers’ interview, Sportsound pundit and Celtic legend Packie Bonner defended Lamont.

Bonner said: “Al (Lamont) has got to ask the questions, that is what is job is.

“The manager obviously has no information for him, and he will be getting a little bit frustrated because this question is going to be asked from now until the end of the window.”

Celtic need two wingers and arguably another quality striker with just over two weeks of the transfer window to go.

Rodgers has stressed, however, that he is confident the Celtic board can get the work done because they have a track record of doing so.
