Celtic are targeting another striker this summer.

The Hoops did not replace Kyogo Furuhashi in the January transfer window and finished the season with Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah as their main options up top.

Johnny Kenny could yet be sent out on loan, while Callum Osmand was signed for a small development fee from Fulham in June.

But Celtic want another and they are targeting Napoli striker Giuseppe Ambrosino, ideally on a loan deal with a view to signing permanently next year.

However, they now face serious competition.

Cremonese bid for Celtic target Ambrosino

That’s because Italian journalist Orazio Accomando claims newly-promoted Serie A side US Cremonese have offered a transfer bid for Ambrosino.

Accomando reports a €3m offer has been submitted to Napoli which includes a sell-on clause to cash in on any big future sale.

He adds that Cagliari are also interested in Ambrosino. However, like Celtic, they are more interested in signing the 21-year-old on loan.

It’s now up to Napoli to consider Cremonese’s proposal, which also leaves the Hoops with a major decision to ponder.

Do they continue to pursue a loan with option to buy deal with Napoli, or change stance and offer their own transfer bid for the Italy U21 forward?

Ambrosino’s career to date

Born in 2003, Ambrosino started his early footballing career with Procida Calcio, before Italian giants Napoli added him to their youth system in 2013.

He signed his first professional contract with Napoli in January 2022 and ended that season as top scorer of the Italian U19 league.

Ambrosino has played for four different clubs on loan. He scored one goal in four for Como, one goal in 15 for Cittadella, three goals in 28 for Catanzaro and five goals in 37 for Frosinone.

He is yet to make his first-team debut for Napoli.
