Pep Guardiola comments provide hope for Celtic fans on Kyogo issue

Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi is the talk of Scottish football right now following recent links involving the Japan international and Manchester City.

Earlier this week, it was said that the Citizens have identified Furuhashi as one of two potential candidates to strengthen their forward line amid Julian Alvarez and Liam Delap’s departures.

Norwegian winger Oscar Bobb has also recently suffered an injury that will sideline him for some time, so it is understandable why Pep Guardiola may want reinforcements.

Setting the bar high, Celtic are demanding north of £20 million for Furuhashi, who is under contract in Glasgow’s east end until 2027.

Guardiola has now shed some light on Manchester City’s potential remaining transfer business in his press conference before the Premier League champions take on Ipswich Town tomorrow.

Pep Guardiola offers Celtic Kyogo hope

Speaking live during his pre-match duties, Guardiola hinted Manchester City could have already completed their transfer business following their capture of Ilkay Gundogan unless his squad circumstances change.

Cited via Beanyman Sports on YouTube, he stated when asked about whether they would welcome any future additions: “I don’t know. I don’t think so. I don’t know what’s going to happen, maybe something happens in terms of injuries – hopefully not – or the market provides something unexpected that financially suits, or tactically… Right now I don’t think so….”

Seemingly, the 53-year-old is only prepared to enter the market should a unique opportunity present itself or if further injuries occur within his squad before the deadline.

Nevertheless, we are all aware of how quickly things can change, but it does offer Celtic some hope that Furuhashi will still be here once the window is closed.

Celtic can’t afford to lose Kyogo Furuhashi

Furuhashi has been an outstanding contributor for Celtic, registering 73 goals and 16 assists in 135 appearances across all competitions.

More often than not, his impact tends to be decisive, which is why he is the man both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers have hung their hat on during their respective spells.

Celtic can’t afford to lose Furuhashi, either under normal circumstances and certainly not with so little time to source an adequate replacement.

With the deadline looming, supporters will be waiting on tenterhooks for confirmation that he will be sticking around at Celtic Park.
