Celtic fans were sent into a late window frenzy when links started to appear regarding Manchester City’s interest in star striker Kyogo Furuhashi.
Reports claimed the Citizens had placed Furuhashi on their radar amid Julian Alvarez and Liam Delap’s departures. Oscar Bobb is also out injured, so there were suspicions they could sanction a move for an offensive incoming.
It was thought the Japan international had been placed on a two-man shortlist alongside another unnamed younger candidate to provide cover for Erling Haaland.
Excelling during his time at Celtic, Furuhashi has registered 73 goals and 16 assists in 136 appearances across all competitions and is widely regarded as the best striker in the country.

Now, Pep Guardiola has given a definitive answer regarding whether he plans to enact a late effort to bring the former Vissel Kobe man to the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola on Manchester City’s Deadline Day business
Taking to social media platform X, Fabrizio Romano has shared quotes from Guardiola confirming he won’t be bringing in any support act for Haaland by the transfer deadline.
Guardiola stated: “Maybe it’s a mistake, I don’t know, but I like to work with not a long, long, long squad. I don’t like to leave a lot of players without playing for a long, long time.”
Presumably, the former Barcelona boss is referring to the fact that anyone who did come in would immediately have to settle for a role as Haaland’s deputy, which is hardly surprising, seeing as he is the best striker in the world.
However, it confirms that Furuhashi will be staying at Celtic. After Guardiola’s comments, it seems impossible that Manchester City would come to the table for the Hoops icon.
You can safely assume that speculation linking the main man in Glasgow’s east end with a move south of the border will remain a passing link. He isn’t going to the Etihad, which is bound to delight supporters.
