A parting gift from Rocco Vata? The rising star scored his first Celtic goal on Sunday against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

It was a great moment for the 18-year-old and one that he will cherish and remember for a very long time.

All of that came with big question marks over the head of Rocco Vata and whether he will leave Celtic amid interest from Italy.

Peter Grant thinks the Celtic teenager has got something about him, but he was worried by Brendan Rodgers’ recent comments about the star and how ‘something isn’t right’, as he told Go Radio

After Celtic’s 5-0 win over Buckie Thistle, the boss praised Rocco Vata for his magical moment, but Peter Grant thinks he hinted to the player that it’s ‘not just down to ability’.

Looking on from afar, the fans can have their say and hope that he does sign a new contract because there is bags of potential there, that’s for sure.

But, at the end of the day, it’s Brendan Rodgers who is watching and monitoring him week in and week out at Lennoxtown, so he is the best judge.

Will Rocco Vata leave Celtic?

“I said at the start of the season that I saw him playing wide and I thought he did really, really well,” said Grant.

“But if you listen to Brendan’s interviews, then you are thinking ‘Uhmm, maybe there isn’t something right off the pitch’.

“We keep saying it. It’s easier to be critical of the manager when he isn’t playing certain players, but then there could be something in the background. There could be anything that we don’t know.

“It was an interesting interview after with Brendan talking about Rocco. He made the point clear. It’s not just down to ability, so maybe there is something that is making him have that wee boil on his back and not enjoying certain parts of his professionalism.”

More chances for Rocco Vata?

Well, the fact of the matter is that he is still a Celtic player, and until he isn’t, he can prove his worth to all.

Vata was provided with a chance to showcase what he is all about at the weekend and he will be hoping it continues against Ross County on Saturday.

This isn’t the case of the versatile attacker starting, but earning more minutes from the bench because he is earning it.
