Peter Grant states he is probably the ‘only’ Celtic fan who would have done one thing with Adam Idah

It was great to see Adam Idah back on the scoresheet over the weekend.

The recently departed Celtic player netted for the Republic of Ireland as they claimed a crucial point against Hungary in a World Cup qualifier.

As many Celtic fans will know, Idah loves a goal from the bench, but his days of doing it for the champions of Scotland are now over.

The Hoops managed to bank £7 million for Idah from Swansea City on transfer deadline day, but it’s a deal that Peter Grant wouldn’t have allowed.

Peter Grant would have kept Adam Idah at Celtic

Idah divided opinion at Celtic, and many felt that he simply wasn’t producing, given the £9 million that was placed on top of his head.

That’s why many of the Celtic Park faithful thought it was the correct call for the 24-year-old to leave, especially for the transfer fee that was put on the table.

But Grant wasn’t in that boat, and he thinks he might be the ‘only’ one, but he wouldn’t have let Idah leave the club.

“Maybe I am the only supporter, I would have kept Adam Idah, to be perfectly honest with you,” stated Grant. “Unless you are bringing in somebody much better.

“At that time, I didn’t know Kelechi Iheanacho was going to be available. There is no doubt he was a quality player. I always felt he was one of these guys who always looked exciting, but predominantly, coming on as a substitute.

“I know he went for a lot of money to Leicester City. I think it was near enough £25, 26 or 27 million. He was one of these guys I thought was going to set alight because he had been at Manchester City.”

Doubts over Kelechi Iheanacho

The man who has effectively come in to replace Idah is former Manchester City and Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho.

Even though Grant rated the 28-year-old when he was coming through at the Etihad, he explained why he has doubts over what the free agent can produce for Celtic.

“I’m not sure where he is now,” added Grant. “I look at the Middlesbrough stats. They aren’t fantastic. You look at Sevilla. It’s not fantastic. It depends on where he is.

“If he is the player I saw two or three years ago, there is no doubt he is a quality striker. But I am not sure, at this moment in time.”
