Luis Palma is enjoying life out in Poland, although it has been reported that he could’ve made the move sooner.

The Celtic winger joined Lech Poznan on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy and has made a great start to his career, reaching double figures for goal contributions.

Poznan will have to pay a record fee to sign Palma permanently but the Honduras international could’ve been lining up for one of the Ekstraklasa side’s biggest rivals if a move went through a few months earlier.

Poll: Which position do Celtic need to strengthen in the 2026 January transfer window?

Legia Warsaw tried to sign Luis Palma in January

After falling out of favour under Brendan Rodgers, Palma was offered the chance to leave Celtic Park to get regular first-team football last season.

Palma joined Olympiacos; however, his fortunes didn’t improve and he largely found himself on the bench.

But according to Polish journalist Lukasz Olkowicz, a different option was on the cards as Legia Warsaw made an attempt to sign the 25-year-old.

“During the winter, Legia also considered loaning Luis Palma from Celtic. In January, Feio even had a conversation with him and was convinced,” he told Meczyki.pl.

“Ultimately, the club decided against the move due to their strategy; such a player would be very expensive to maintain, as would his buyout from Scotland. In the long run, he wouldn’t help the club.”

Olkowicz then added that the Polish giants abandoned the idea of revisiting a move for him in the summer due to the asking price.

He said: “The topic of Palma could have come up again at Lazienkowska in the summer, but Legia didn’t want to consider it due to the buyout price.”
