Portuguese journalist says Jota to Celtic "almost done"; loan deal includes buy clause
Celtic’s loan move for Benfica winger Jota is “almost done”, Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida has reported today.
João Pedro Neves Filipe, known as Jota, has been linked with a move to the Bhoys for a number of days now. And it seems that Celtic are now close to finalising his signature.
Almeida said on Twitter this afternoon: “Jota is almost done to join Celtic from Benfica on a loan deal with buy option around €7.5m. Very advanced contacts between two teams.”
The Portuguese youth international plays predominately on the left wing and has made 34 appearances for Benfica’s senior side.
Last season the 22-year-old spent time out on loan at Real Valladolid in La Liga.
With a purchase clause now inserted in his apparently imminent loan move to Celtic, it seems his days at Benfica are numbered.
Celtic badly need an option on the left flank. Manager Ange Postecoglou admitted his limited wide options today forced him into not playing Kyogo Furuhashi through the middle from the start against Rangers.
Have more versatility and selection options in attack would be a big boost to the Celtic manager.
With a move for Georgios Giakoumakis also reportedly close, it seems that the Bhoys will certainly be busy in the closing stages of the transfer window.
Today’s match at Ibrox demonstrated that while this Celtic team is making progress, there’s still a lot of work to do on and off the pitch to make the Bhoys the club we know they can be.
Hopefully Jota can make a similar impact to Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada in the Hoops attack.
In other news, Celtic still holding out for bigger Odsonne Edouard transfer fee.
