Report: Celtic still holding out for bigger Odsonne Edouard transfer fee
Crystal Palace are the latest club to have lodged a bid for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard but the club are holding firm on his valuation, The Daily Mail reports.
As we discussed last night, it’s thought that Palace have bid £15m, hoping to strike a deal in the final days of the transfer window.
However, The Mail say that Celtic are still keen to push that price up, knowing there’s a healthy sell-on fee due to Paris Saint-Germain from profit on any future sale.
Everton, Rubin Kazan and Bordeaux have all been credited with interest over the last 48 hours, so you can understand Celtic’s point of view.
For all the media hysteria around his expiring contract, the club and the player seem pretty relaxed about his situation. Celtic have made it clear they won’t accept a bid they’re not happy with, while Edouard is reportedly willing to run down his deal at the Bhoys.
That’s all good with me. There are benefits to him staying even if we don’t get that raw cash in the door. Celtic probably don’t need to sell, especially since qualifying for the Europa League will bank over £10m.
It all means Celtic are unlikely to be scrambling to get him out of the door before Tuesday night. Or this could just be a cool-as-you-like negotiation tactic. I’m not so sure the club have shown they’re capable of the latter!
There’s a chance this all means that Edouard has either already played his last game for the club, or tomorrow’s appearance at Ibrox will be his final bow. If that turns out to be the case, he’ll go with the best wishes of supporters having played a pivotal role in helping us qualifying for the Europa League on Thursday night.
An interesting couple of days are ahead!
