Celtic are blessed to have an individual like Callum McGregor representing them.
The Celtic midfielder might not be a loud character like Scott Brown, but when he speaks, you listen, and in recent weeks, a lot has been said.
Celtic’s failure to secure Champions League football was painful in more ways than one, including from a financial perspective, but many saw this coming.
The reason for this is that the supporters feel the powers that be have let down the manager, Brendan Rodgers, by not doing enough during the 2025 summer transfer window.
It even resulted in the Celtic skipper coming out and having his say, which has caught the eye of the vocal striker-turned-pundit, Chris Sutton.

What did Callum McGregor say about Celtic’s summer transfer business?
Everyone acknowledges that the team that was used against Kairat Almaty should have done enough to secure Champions League football.
But it shouldn’t hide how the board have failed to get things right in the window, whether that’s replacing Nicolas Kuhn, who left this summer, or Kyogo Furuhashi, who was sold in the winter.
It resulted in McGregor speaking up on the matter post the Almaty defeat, as he told BBC Sport.
“We need help, we need players, we need a stronger squad if we want to compete on all fronts,” said McGregor after exiting the Champions League. “We need bodies in the door, and hopefully the club can do it.
“It’s a sore one for the club in terms of finances. But no one has a God-given right to be in the tournament.”
Chris Sutton on McGregor’s views on Celtic transfers
Whether you agree or disagree, one thing is for sure: Sutton doesn’t mince his words, and he is pretty vocal on all things Celtic.
And it’s fair to say that he has been pretty critical of the Celtic board this summer.
Following McGregor’s comments, Sutton told Sky Sports that it’s ‘the most damning indictment’ on Celtic when their skipper is coming out and having his say on transfers.
“I think the most damning indictment, whether people want to listen to me or the supporters, whatever,” said Sutton. “Whether they do or don’t.
“The most damning thing is that Callum McGregor, the club captain, who is really thoughtful and responsible in the way that he speaks, and the way that he acts.
“For him to come out and say that the club need bodies through the door, players through the door so they can compete on all levels. That’s a pretty big statement. You just hope that the recruitment department and the hierarchy at Celtic will listen to have or have listened to him.
“It has been messy, you can’t get away from the fact.”
