Celtic have taken a step forward in their pursuit of Australian international attacker Marco Tilio.

As we previously discussed, the Bhoys and City reached a fee agreement but personal terms and a medical had yet to be completed.

The Daily Record [27/06 print edition, page 47] reports that Celtic and Tilio have since negotiated successfully, with a work permit and official documentation now being sorted to finalise his switch to Scotland. How long that will take is unknown, but the paper says confirmation of the deal is ‘close’.

Tilio scored 10 goals in Australian football last term, assisting six more. He’s emerged as one of the standout domestic talents still playing in the A-League, earning caps with the Socceroos in the process.

A versatile attacker who can play on both wings and as a ‘second striker’, Tilio will arrive to immediately compete for a first-team spot in Brendan Rodgers’ new-look side.

Marco Tilio fits the Celtic profile

Tilio was likely identified as a potential signing long before Rodgers’ official appointment but the manager has already stated he is happy to work with lists drawn up by head of recruitment Mark Lawwell.

Lawwell will be well aware of Tilio’s talents having worked extensively at the City Group over the last decade, where Tilio has emerged and broken through as a senior talent.

Still just 21, he has the potential to improve further and become the latest player signed up by the Bhoys, polished and turned into a significant asset.

Now it’s up to the player himself to take the opportunity on offer to him and seize his big moment.
