Celtic are closing in on a move for Bayern Munich youngster Christopher Scott, GhanaSoccerNet has reported today.

It was reported by Sky Germany months ago that Celtic had held talks with the midfielder, who is coming to the end of his contract this summer.

Compensation would be due to Bayern and often this is negotiated, with GhanaSoccerNet stating that it would take £250,000 to bring the 19-year-old to Glasgow. Despite interest from elsewhere, it’s said Celtic are the favourites for his signature.

Scott was born in Germany and is a youth international at U20 level with his nation but he is also eligible to play for Ghana through his parents, which is presumably why the Ghanaian outlet is tracking his story in Europe.

The youngster has been attracting attention in Germany, with some promising comparisons being made by those who have watched him in action.

If some of the chat around him is accurate, Celtic could be getting a real bargain here.

Celtic target Christopher Scott has had rave reviews

The official Bundesliga website described him as “outrageously gifted” last year before going on to say: “Constantly on the move and regularly finding space in central positions between the opposition defence and midfield, Scott is adept at receiving the ball on the half-turn from deep and instantly launching attacks.

“Quick, strong and an excellent dribbler, the right-footer is programmed to cause problems for opposing backlines, very much like fellow Leverkusen academy graduate Kai Havertz.”

It’s also been said that Brentford have held talks about bringing him to the English Premier League, so if Celtic do get the move over the line it would be good work.

If the 19-year-old is looking for regular first-team football in an exciting, attacking team then the Bhoys are a good destination for him, especially with the lure of UEFA Champions League football next season.

Working under Ange Postecoglou would surely aid his development too given his track record with the signings he’s already made at Celtic.

Fingers crossed for a more official update soon.

In other news, Celtic credited with interest in Lanus defender Julian Aude; Benfica also keen.
