Report: Celtic plan medical; confidence high on Hyeon-Gyu Oh
Celtic are getting close to a transfer agreement with Suwon Bluewings for South Korean striker Hyeon-Gyu Oh, Sky Sports have reported today.
It’s said that confidence is so high that a deal will be done that the club are already putting plans in place for a medical.
Gue-Sung Cho, another Celtic transfer target this month, is reported to be weighing up his future after talks stalled, with the Bhoys swiftly moving on to the alternative option.
This is the ruthless manner in which Celtic have been doing business under Ange Postecoglou and Michael Nicholson.
The report also ties in with comments made by the manager in his media conference today.
Without talking about specific players, he suggested deals will be done over the coming days after progress was made this week.
Oh scored 14 goals in all competitions for his club throughout 2022. He also made a breakthrough into the international set-up, winning his first cap in a friendly against Iceland prior to the World Cup.
Still just 21, he is not yet the finished article but, clearly, Postecoglou and the Celtic staff see something in him to work on and enhance Celtic.
The Bhoys do need an alternative to Kyogo Furuhashi in case of injury and to keep competition for places high and Oh has the kind of profile that fits him being an initial understudy at Celtic.
With Daizen Maeda and Sead Haksabanovic also available to fill in centrally, Postecoglou should be well-stocked for the rest of the season, even if Giorgos Giakoumakis does end up moving on.
In other news, Greg Taylor back in training as he closes in on Celtic return.
