Report: Celtic reignite interest in January target Niclas Eliasson after scouting trip
Celtic have reignited interest in Bristol City winger Niclas Eliasson, The Scottish Sun reports.
The paper says that Bhoys scout Gary Penrice was in place to watch Eliasson in action against Aston Villa last week in the Carabao Cup.
Now he’s an option for Neil Lennon ahead of transfer deadline day – if Celtic are unsuccessful with a third bid for Charlton prospect Alfie Doughty.
Eliasson was first linked to the Scottish champions way back in January when The Scottish Mail on Sunday reported that we’d been scouting him throughout the 2019/20 season.
It was reported back then we had him in mind for a late January move.
The left-sided player eventually ended up staying at Bristol City, but with Celtic in need of an option on that side, he’s on our radar again.
His contract situation is also more favourable for Celtic eight months down the line. That expires at the end of this season, and he’ll be free to speak to clubs in January.
That might help us in negotiations with the Robins.
Eliasson notched up an impressive 13 assists last term and could be a viable, creative option to compete with Greg Taylor in Neil Lennon’s 3-5-2 formation.
Eliasson is also capable of playing on the right side, a versatility that could be very useful across a long campaign.
With the quest to sign Doughty making little public progress in recent days, the 24-year-old isn’t a bad back up when it comes to our final week options.
