Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been in discussions with the representatives of Albian Ajeti over the weekend, Sky Sports has reported on Monday.

Ajeti was first linked with a move to Glasgow from West Ham United a couple of weeks ago.

It was even reported by outlets such as STV that he would be on his way to Scotland for a medical.

However, that speculation soon evaporated with reports that he had wanted more time to consider his next step.

Lennon appears to be keen on landing his man though and Sky Sports say that the manager has held further discussions with his agents over the last few days.

That comes after the two clubs agreed on a loan move, with the option to buy for around £5m.

Sky Sports go on to report that the prospect of playing European football with the Hoops is appealing to the 10-cap international.

Ajeti didn’t have the best of seasons at West Ham last term but it’s his form at Basel that should be cause for excitement amongst Celtic supporters.

He netted 43 goals and assisted 21 times in 96 appearances for the Swiss side, gaining experience of winning league titles and playing in the Champions League (Transfermarkt).

As affordable options go in attack he looks a great pick and has the profile to suggest he can make a big impact in the Scottish Premiership.

Lennon’s reported persistence when it comes to this potential deal speaks volumes and it would be fantastic if his intervention made a material difference.

After the capture of goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas last week, it seems the club are wasting no time in turning to other positions.

In other news, Brentford are reported to be close to a fee agreement for Celtic target Ivan Toney.
