The need for attacking players at Celtic has come to a standstill.
Not only does Brendan Rodgers require attacking fuel for his Celtic squad, but he also needs players to head for the exit door to free up space.
But as Celtic prepare for St Mirren on Sunday, Flag Day, and the opening match of the new Premiership season, nothing is moving in the 2025 summer transfer window when it comes to attacking players.
Even for players like Marco Tilio, who everybody knows doesn’t have a future at Celtic, but as of this moment, he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

Celtic fans react to Marco Tilio transfer latest
Celtic have already let a winger go this summer when Nicolas Kuhn was sold to Como for just under £17 million.
Was there a replacement brought in? Probably not, because new signing Benjamin Nygren has played a number eight role in pre-season.
Either way, whilst Kuhn was allowed to go, seemingly without a replacement coming in, the same isn’t happening with Tilio, despite interest from SK Rapid Wien.
It has been suggested that Celtic won’t let Tilio go until a replacement comes in, and it’s fair to say that the supporters aren’t too impressed on social media.
@RossAllan1980 feels Celtic should have also done this with Kuhn: ‘Should have done this with Kuhn until they had a replacement…’
@olegtoshev1 predicted how long Celtic fans will have to wait: ‘So somewhere around 2028.’
@Splissken1970 used three words to describe the whole situation: ‘What a shambles.’
Another Celtic fan who compared the Tilio situation to Kuhn’s, as @gigicullen0502 added: ‘But Kühn can because the offer was too good to turn down. Scandalous.’
That theme continued, as @Iain__Fraser added: ‘What a shambles!’
@Max____67 just needed one word: ‘Embarrassing.’
@PbsSportspics described the situation: ‘Shows you how bad the situation is.’
@paddybhoy111 thinks it says it all: ‘Tells its own story.’
@Davidtu16699681 joked Tilio will stay until next season: ‘That will be him here until next season then.’
Another Celtic fan who added humour to it all: ‘Makes sense with the league starting this week.’
@rappmitch178 thinks it’s a message to the Celtic board: ‘This is classic but we do need some players for the weekend so ‘fire sale’ is on hold, this is similar to Yang, BR doesn’t really see him as the ‘starting winger’ but it’s a message to Board, he can’t be sold as he is IN THE TEAM ‘sensible’but also pathetic we boxed ourselves in.’
Who are the players who can play as wingers for Celtic?
You will have the out-and-out wingers, such as Tilio, who can deploy the right and left flanks, and then those versatile players.
Even some within the squad, such as Luke McCowan, have been previously suggested in that role, and have the attacking quality to play out wide.
But what options, both very likely and very unlikely to play there, does Rodgers have in the wide areas?
- Daizen Maeda
- Jota (long-term injury)
- Marco Tilio
- Benjamin Nygren
- Hyunjun Yang
- James Forrest
- Luke McCowan
