Tawanda Maswanhise is an in-form striker who has been on Celtic’s January transfer radar.

Some Celtic fans are hoping that the powers that be at Parkhead make a late deadline day move for the Motherwell hitman.

Would Motherwell let such a key asset leave so late in the window? And what would be Maswanhise’s price?

Well, it seems as though there is some transfer action involving Maswanhise on transfer deadline day, and Celtic might just kick themselves that they aren’t involved.

Is Tawanda Maswanhise Celtic quality?

Tawanda Maswanhise’s transfer price revealed as Celtic target wanted by Anderlecht

Maswanhise added more goals to his tally over the weekend when he netted a brace during Motherwell’s 2-0 win over Livingston.

But as the manic transfer deadline day takes shape, Sacha Tavolieri has shared on social media that Anderlecht ‘have been in contact over the past 24 hours’, looking to sign Maswanhise.

What’s interesting here is that the Belgian journalist has shared that Motherwell want ‘£2.5 million’ for their striker.

‘EXCL – RSCA set their sights on Tawanda Maswanhise,’ wrote Tavolieri.

‘Mauve have been in contact with Motherwell FC over the past 24 hours to explore the possibility of a deal. Motherwell asking for €3M (£2.5 million).

‘RSCA scanning the winger market in the final hours of the window…’

What Andy Halliday said Maswanhise is worth looks interesting now…

When there was talk about Celtic possibly signing Maswanhise, his Motherwell teammate, Andy Halliday, was discussing how much he would be worth.

Speaking on Clyde 1, just under a fortnight ago, Halliday compared Maswanhise to then-Hibernian striker Kieron Bowie.

Bowie has since left Easter Road and joined Hellas Verona for a club-record fee – Hibs’ club-record transfer sale was Scott Brown joining Celtic for ‘£4.4 million’ in 2007.

That’s why Halliday stated the transfer price on Maswanhise’s head should ‘start with a four’, but it might not even be close to that.

Andy Halliday: “I tell you what, it starts with a four for me.”

Motherwell fan and host, Gordon Duncan: “Do you think so? I actually think it might be less.”

Hannah: “I think it might be less as well.”

Halliday: “I can only go off the fact that I am hearing the sum of £6.5 million for Kieron Bowie.”

Duncan: “Totally. Is that the right barometer?”

Halliday: “By all accounts, the reason why we are hearing that is because that’s the figure being brandished around by Hibs.

“Whether Celtic could get him for less or not. But I just do think, if you are the top goalscorer in the league, and I have said this a couple of times, about clubs in our country outside of Celtic and Rangers.

“I think gone are the days when they are selling their assets for pennies. Look at the fee Lennon Miller just went for in the summer. I know we are talking about a different type of prospect.”
