Rocco Vata’s imminent Celtic exit looks like it will be ratified at any minute following news he has completed a medical at Watford.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is out of contract at Parkhead and agreed a four-year-deal to sign for the Hornets earlier this week, subject to final checks.

Following months of deadlock over an extension to his deal at Celtic, there has been interest in the youngster from several clubs around Europe.

Scoring his first goal for the Bhoys against Buckie Thistle earlier this year, there were high hopes that he could be a star of the future in Glasgow’s east end.

Nevertheless, official confirmation is now all that is needed before his departure is set in stone, which would leave Celtic with a compensation fee in excess of £200,000.

Rocco Vata completes medical at Watford

Per Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph on X, Vata completed his Watford medical yesterday and will sign a four-year deal at Vicarage Road, with an option for a further 12 months inserted into the agreement.

Joseph stated: “UPDATE: Celtic forward Rocco Vata has agreed terms on a four-year deal with Watford. It’s understood Watford will have the option to extend his contract by a further year, under the agreement. Vata, 19, completed his medical yesterday.”

Celtic had been in talks with Vata for several months over an extension; nevertheless, the more discussions wore on, it became clear that a clean break between both parties was an option that carried increasing weight.

Overall, the 19-year-old has made six senior appearances for the Bhoys, though his next career steps will be taken elsewhere.

Brendan Rodgers is losing a bright academy talent; however, there is at least now clarity on his situation.
