There was much excitement amongst the Celtic fans after Leicester City’s, Wilfred Ndidi, was linked to the club yesterday.

The Nigerian international midfielder was rumoured to have wanted to link up with Brendan Rodgers after he spent four years with the Celtic manager at The King Power Stadium.

Ndidi won an FA Cup and the Community Shield during Rodgers’ time at The Foxes and reports suggested he would be keen to link up with the Celtic boss to play in the Champions League next season.

With his contract already expired, Ndidi was still in negotiations with Leicester as they look to bolster their squad for the Premier League next season.

And it seems, now, that the 27-year-old’s future has been sorted out.

Ndidi set to sign new Leicester City contract

According to All Nigeria Soccer, there is ‘no truth’ in report from the Daily Record suggesting Ndidi wanted to link up with Rodgers and that the story did not come from either Ndidi or his representitives.

The report goes on further to explain that Ndidi ‘will definitely sign a new contract’ with Leicester to help fight to keep their status in the Premier League nest season.

Ndidi has made 356 professional first-team appearances for both Leicester and Genk with the majority of those under Celtic boss, Rodgers.

He also has 58 caps for Nigeria and appeared in the 2018 World Cup against the likes of Croatia, Iceland and Lionel Messi’s, Argentina.

For a free transfer and at 27, Ndidi would have been a shrewd signing but wages would have been a huge stumbling block for Celtic.

According to Spotrac, Nidid was on a massive £75,000 per week at the newly promoted Premier League side and that is a salary the Parkhead club could never match.

Now that the speculation surrounding the midfielder appears to be put to bed, the Celtic fans will be hoping that the recent reports surrounding the clubs offer from Adam Idah bears more fruit as they wait for the first new signing of the summer.
