‘Their board’ – West Ham fans issue an interesting take about Celtic bidding for Andy Irving

To say Celtic’s transfer strategy has divided opinion would be an understatement.

Many Celtic supporters, and the manager, Brendan Rodgers, are calling for attacking players, such as wingers and centre-forwards, to be signed.

But it seems as though midfielders are still a hot topic, with West Ham United’s Andy Irving linked with Celtic, as he could exit the London Stadium before the September 1 deadline.

In June, sources told 67 Hail Hail that Celtic were interested in the out-of-favour Hammers midfielder, and now, according to Claret and Hugh, a bid of ‘£2.2 million has been rejected’ for the player from Celtic.

West Ham United fans react to Celtic bidding for Andy Irving

The West Ham fans issued an interesting take on all of this, with sections of them backing Irving to move to Parkhead because they feel he now needs to progress his career.

But another topic of discussion was the price tag on the player’s head; it has been suggested that a bid of ‘£3.5 million’ would be accepted by the London club.

It’s fair to say that some of the Hammers supporters think Irving is worth more, and there are others who don’t want him to leave at all.

@TheBoleynView wants to see the move: ‘Would love to see him move to one of the two too clubs in Scotland and do well.’

@dylan_whu on what the Celtic board won’t do: ‘Their board won’t pay it.’

@AllenCummings6 explained why Irving joining Celtic ‘makes sense’: ‘Won’t be featuring much for us – if at all. £3.5m in the kitty and his wages off the books. We have to ‘slim down’ and this makes sense.’

@LennyQuinton thinks Irving is worth more: ‘He’s decent, worth more than that. He always gives a good shift when he comes on.’

Another West Ham fan who is happy to see this news, as @Steady1975 added: ‘Good news, frees up a squad space for an incoming better midfielder.’

This West Ham supporter named his price for Irving, as @brad_hass4 stated: ‘Was that a typo? Surely should say 35 million?’

The price tag mentioned is a common theme, as @whu_crypto continued: ‘This is just a crazy valuation, how are we valuing a very decent 25-year-old for a lesser amount than which we paid Guido Rodriguez as a signing on bonus?’

Another mention of Irving’s price tag, as @joeharris_6 explained: ‘He is worth more than 3.5 mill to us, makes no sense. The bloke can clearly contribute even if off the bench. He will pop up with an important goal or 2 through the season.’

@JayThorogood19 doesn’t want to see Irving go: ‘Big mistake getting rid of him for that! He’s a good player…’

@bonkyvip thinks there is more in Irving: ‘This is such a shame. I think there’s a good player in him.’

@eezeeu seems to be gutted: ‘Nooooooo, my GOAT.’

@AzamWHUFC made his feelings clear: ‘Nooooooooo, we can’t let this happen.’

Irving’s career path so far…

There will be some Celtic supporters screaming that Rodgers doesn’t need another midfield player, but Irving does have versatility.

The 25-year-old mainly likes to deploy a role in the middle of the park, but throughout his career, he has played all over the shop, including out wide.

Either way, Irving needs no introduction to Scottish football because the Edinburgh-born player started his youth career at Hearts.
