‘They will regret it’ – Celtic told by Sky Sports pundit that they missed the boat by not signing striker

Celtic have been told by Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie that they will regret not signing one of the Football League’s most in-demand strikers.

Brendan Rodgers is on the hunt for a number nine, despite having four in his squad already.

Hugh Keevins thinks Celtic lack firepower and that they need to find somebody to challenge Adam Idah.

One of those linked in the past, Louis Munteanu, could be available in a cut-price deal due to an ongoing pay dispute with CFR Cluj.

But Hendrie has told the Hoops that there is another option they’ll have regretted not pursuing.

Celtic told they should’ve signed Richard Kone

Richard Kone was a man wanted by several clubs in England and Europe this summer after an excellent campaign for Wycombe Wanderers.

Kone has had an incredible rise, representing the Ivory Coast at the homeless World Cup before signing for Wycombe.

His form attracted the interest of several clubs but in the end he chose to join QPR.

While Hendrie acknowledged that Kone would’ve faced more competition at Celtic Park, he still thinks the Bhoys should’ve gone for him.

He told Football League World: “I think to be quite honest yes, they will regret it. I think Leicester have a bit more strength, but QPR have a younger squad and he’ll probably get more game time there than at Celtic or Leicester and that might have been an important part of the decision. Between them and Swansea, it would have been between those two.”

If Kone had joined, the first person he’d have looked to have dislodged from the side is Idah.

The £9m striker scored 20 times in all competitions last season, one less than Kone, who scored 21 in all competitions.

Although the 22-year-old did score more, it’s worth noting that Idah played in more high-profile competitions such as the Champions League.

There is no guarantee that Kone would’ve been a success or failure at Celtic Park, but as Gary Hooper proved, the step up from League One to Celtic is doable.
