‘Thinks he’s better than Celtic’ – Frank McAvennie hits out at player who is about to leave

Celtic have shown time and time again that if serious money is put on the table, then they will sell their star assets.

Matt O’Riley was Celtic’s big sale last summer when he joined English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion for £25 million.

Now, Celtic are not going to make such money now, but still, the serious dough is expected to come through the door in the coming days.

That’s because Nicolas Kuhn is set to join Como for £17.2 million, who are in Italy’s top tier and are managed by legendary midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

And Kuhn’s imminent exit hasn’t sat well with Frank McAvennie.

Nicolas Kuhn slammed ahead of Celtic transfer exit to Como

When O’Riley left last summer, whilst fans understood why it was happening, it was still bitterly disappointing because of how important he was to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

It’s fair to say that Kuhn isn’t in that boat because of the way he ended the previous campaign, and McAvennie highlighted his drop in form.

The former Celtic player, speaking on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast, explained that he would happily drive the German to Como.

And also claimed that the winger thinks he is now ‘better than Celtic’, yet is getting a move to a club like Como.

“It is a bit of business,” said McAvennie. “I would take (drive him to the airport).

“Listen, he has been wonderful. Come January, he was winning every trophy. Player of the Year. He would have won everything. Players’ Player of the Year. Supporters Player of the Year. He would have won everything.

“After January, somebody has tapped him up. His aspirations of his agents telling him how good he is and that he is better than Celtic.

“Better than Celtic, and you are going to Como? Tell me that isn’t about money. It’s very good (deal for Celtic), but I don’t think it’s what Brendan (Rodgers) wants.”

Kuhn’s first and second half of the season stats

As mentioned above, Kuhn was flying and showcasing that he was the best player in Scotland up until the January transfer window.

By then, even with Celtic losing to Rangers at Ibrox just after the New Year, everyone knew the title was going to be won by Scotland’s most successful club; it was just a case of whether Rodgers would win the Treble.

The Treble didn’t happen, which was no worry, but Kuhn’s first and second halves of the season were a world of difference.
