‘No-brainer’- Billy Dodds and BBC pundits react to what Celtic are about to do in the transfer market

Nobody can argue that Celtic haven’t been providing the entertainment during this summer’s transfer window.

There has been a lot to unpack, and a lot continues to be unpacked, as Brendan Rodgers moulds his squad ahead of the new Premiership campaign.

Celtic play Cork on Tuesday evening in Ireland; it will be their second pre-season match of the summer, and one man isn’t expected to be present.

That’s winger Nicolas Kuhn, because he is heading for the Celtic Park exit door, after only moving to Glasgow during the January transfer window of 2024.

But are the champions of Scotland making the right call?

‘No-brainer’ for Celtic to sell Nicolas Kuhn to Como

Kuhn is set to join Como in Serie A, and his expected transfer has sparked a lot of discussion, with everyone seemingly in agreement.

Both Leanne Crichton and Rory Loy noted how the German had blown ‘hot and cold’ last season, so they think he’s ‘not irreplaceable’.

Whilst Billy Dodds faced Kuhn, as part of Barry Ferguson’s coaching staff at Rangers, he also told BBC Radio Scotland that it’s a ‘no-brainer’ to let the player go because of the money Celtic are going to make.

Leanne Crichton stated: “Looking at his performance levels, Kuhn’s blown hot and cold at points. At the tail end of last season, he looked like a player who was ready to go.

“I don’t think Rodgers is the type of manager who would wait about and try to encourage you to stay at Celtic and apply yourself. For both parties, it looks like it could be a pretty fair deal. He’s not irreplaceable.”

Rory Loy added: “If you are Celtic and you have a player there blowing hot and cold, managers want players they can trust.

“If you don’t have that unwavering trust that he’s going to be the same player next season as he was last season, you grab Como’s hand off at £15m.”

Billy Dodds also added: “Money-wise, it’s the best time to sell. Matt O’Riley, now it’s Kuhn. If you buy low and sell for a lot of money, it’s a no-brainer [to sell now].”

Kuhn pictured on his way to Como

It’s only a matter of time before Celtic and Como announce the Kuhn news because he should have landed in Italy by now, with all the key details being signed, sealed and delivered.

That’s because on Monday evening, Fabrizio Romano posted an exclusive picture on social media of the former RB Leipzig winger heading to Como.

And with Celtic travelling to Como for pre-season, there is every chance that Kuhn comes up against his former side in a few weeks.

But, as you can see with Romano’s message, Celtic will earn £16.3 million from this transfer after signing the player from Rapid Vienna for £3.5 million. Another profit in the bank!
