Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he may need reinforcements in midfield before the end of the window.
Yesterday, news broke that Brighton & Hove Albion are willing to shatter the Scottish transfer record to land Matt O’Riley, and there is now confidence that a deal can be struck.
With the potential for movement between now and the deadline, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he would like two reinforcements in the engine room should the Denmark international depart.
Augsburg man Arne Engels is on the radar and is said to be keen on a move to Celtic despite interest from Rennes amid his desire to play Champions League football.
Last week, new developments surfaced signalling that the Bhoys are set to test Dundee’s resolve for captain Luke McCowan, who is available for £1 million.
Hibernian have seen several bids turned down for the former Ayr United man as speculation continues to intensify surrounding his future. Tony Docherty has now addressed rumours involving his prize asset.
Tony Docherty on Luke McCowan
Viewed as a player Celtic could put to use among their congested fixture schedule, McCowan has continued to thrive at Dundee this term, registering three goals and six assists in seven appearances across all competitions.
His contract at Dens Park is set to expire next summer and Dundee boss Docherty has confirmed he hasn’t agreed an extension despite having an offer on the table in Tayside.

Per The Courier, Docherty has continued to be coy on his future when pressed on the subject, stating: “Absolutely nothing, nothing since Saturday.
“He trained with the squad again on Monday, and he was part of our normal analysis session. So, nothing more to say.”
Plates could start to spin for Celtic in the market
It goes without saying that if O’Riley does leave Celtic, there will be transfer movement. Rodgers will need added depth to manage the rigours of a campaign in which his side hopes to fight for silverware on all fronts.
McCowan’s name has been floated, and he would be a smart signing if the Bhoys’ initial interest were to accelerate. The 26-year-old is homegrown and has proven Scottish Premiership experience, impressing with his Dens Park displays.
Nevertheless, he wouldn’t be a like-for-like O’Riley replacement. That is more likely to come in the form of Engels or someone like Lausanne-Sport attacking midfielder Alvyn Sanches, who is also attracting interest from Nice, Burnley and Anderlecht.
Time is of the essence for Celtic and the club need to deliver. Restlessness surrounding transfer business at the club this summer has caused frustration, it is time for action.
