What Arne Engels has said about Celtic keeping star Kyogo amid £10m Atlanta transfer talk

Arne Engels may only have been at Celtic since the summer but he has found his feet quickly.

The Belgian has already become a key player in Glasgow and has developed a telepathy with most of his teammates.

Engels was excellent again vs Ross County as Celtic swept the Staggies aside and he scored from the spot after being trusted by Brendan Rodgers in the retake after initially having one saved.

He also provided an assist for Kyogo who bagged a brace and was described as being a “scary” player to play against by Kris Boyd.

The Japanese international is vital for Celts with his 85 goals in 162 outings thus far and Engels has been impressed with his talents at Parkhead.

Now, amid £10million interest from Atlanta in Kyogo, Engels is praying his teammate stays and continues to strut his stuff in green and white as he is so important for the club.

Although a Sky Sports update might have aided Celtic’s cause of keeping Kyogo.

Engels hopes Celtic can keep hold of Kyogo

Asked by the media about wanting Kyogo to stay due to his “invaluable” assets, Engels responded: “He’s really important for us.

“He’s doing all the dirty work that some people aren’t seeing and we are, so we know how important he is for us and you see it again today.

“He’s scored those two goals and he could maybe even score more but he’s really important for us.

“So he’s been really good.”

It was a good afternoon for the Hoops who went 18 points clear at the Premiership summit before Rangers won their game in hand yesterday.

And Engels certainly enjoyed his day.

That was proven by his wild celebrations after he assisted Kyogo’s second as he lay on the floor punching the air before he was mobbed by his teammates.

What Engels said about his celebration after Kyogo’s goal

Asked about those scenes, Engels added: “Yeah, 100 per cent if you’re 1-1, then you also want to win and you always have that winning mentality and mindset.

“So when the second goal comes, then you’re happy for the team.

“Kyogo did amazing but he’s already been good and doing all the dirty work also.

“Maybe it’s not really seen by all the supporters or something or by all the fans, but he’s doing good and he’s putting all the work in and he deserves those goals.”
