What Celtic are ‘expected’ to pay for Shin Yamada as new transfer fee emerges

Shin Yamada is widely expected to join Celtic from Kawasaki Frontale in the coming days.

The Japanese striker has caught the eye of the Parkhead club after Celtic ‘watched’ Yamada back in June of this summer.

Despite not having the best of seasons at Frontale, it appears that Yamada’s overall goalscoring record for the J League club is enough to convince Celtic to pay the £1.5m that was initially reported for the 25-year-old front man.

However, it appears that fee is somewhat inflated and Celtic could now make a small saving on Yamada after a report shared what the Parkhead club are ‘expected’ to pay for the striker this summer.

Celtic will not pay Kawasaki Frontale £1.5m for Shin Yamada

A fee of £1.5m for a striker who knows his way to goal is certainly not to be sniffed at. Yamada has netted 37 times in 125 appearances for Frontale so cannot be regarded as a prolific striker.

However, it appears that Celtic will not pay the £1.5m fee that has been doing the rounds. In their latest transfer round up, the Daily Record have shared how much the Parkhead club are ‘expected’ to pay.

The report says the Hoops will pay ‘around’ £1.2m for Yamada which means Celtic will save at least £300,000 if and when the transfer deal goes through.

At a time when Celtic are raking in the cash, this deal should be fairly easy to conclude and make Yamada the club’s seventh signing this summer.

When Shin Yamada ‘stole the show’ before Celtic rumours started

Yamada has ambitions to become a full Japan international and a move to Celtic will almost certainly help him achieve that.

Whilst his goalscoring record is not the best this season, there was a game in 2024 where Yamada terrorised J League opponents Tokyo Verdy.

The Japanese striker captained Frontale in a 5-4 away win at Verdy where the Celtic-linked striker netted a hat-trick and created one in an incredible performance.

Have a watch below.

With Celtic desperately needing a top striker, if Yamada can put in these kinds of performances week in, week out, the Parkhead support will have found themselves a new hero.
