What transfer fee and loan fee SK Rapid Wien will pay for Celtic’s Marco Tilio

Another unsurprising exit is on the cards at Celtic.

Life has been difficult for Marco Tilio following his transfer to Celtic during the summer of 2023 from Melbourne City for £1.5 million.

Tilio has made only two appearances, including getting loaned back to Melbourne City last season, as his next adventure is going to see him travel to Austria.

Celtic have done transfer business with SK Rapid before, including signing Nicolas Kuhn during the January transfer window of 2024.

But now, the Austrian giants are going to add Tilio to their ranks.

20 starts will activate a clause in Marco Tilio’s SK Rapid Wien contract

This is now a ‘done deal’, according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, who has a pretty strong record when it comes to transfer information.

Plettenberg has added a bit of meat to the bone because this is ‘a loan with an obligation to buy’, but there is a twist.

SK Rapid will only pay £1.3 million for Tilio if he makes ’20 starts in competitive matches’ next season.

Florian Plettenberg wrote on social media: ‘Marco #Tilio to SK Rapid is considered a done deal.

‘It’s a loan with an obligation to buy, which becomes valid after 20 starts in competitive matches. The fee upon activation will be €1.5 million (£1.3m).’

What loan fee are Rapid paying Celtic for Tilio?

Whilst the above transfer fee isn’t guaranteed because it requires Tilio to make a certain number of starts, what is guaranteed is the loan fee.

The fact that Tilio hasn’t even touched the surface of the Celtic squad, the powers that be are doing well just to get something from him, and it seems as though close to £350k will be paid for the loan fee.

‘There will be a €400k (£346k) loan fee for the 23 y/o winger from Celtic,’ added Plettenberg.
