Former Celtic defender Josip Juranovic has sent a heartfelt message to supporters after confirming his transfer switch to Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin today.
Both clubs have announced the deal is complete, with reports indicating it’s worth an initial £7.5m, rising to a potential £10m with add-ons.
Speaking on Instagram after being unveiled in Berlin, Juranovic said: “What can I say? What a memorable 18 months. My family and I will always remember every part of that journey 🍀 Thank you for making this a special time for us. Sharing the dressing room with so many amazing teammates in this short period of time was an unforgettable experience! It was my pleasure working with the manager, coaches and staff members. Big thanks to the fans. Each and every one of you made me feel special. Fireball ☄️ will be always close to my heart! Glasgow will always be GREEN AND WHITE! Once a CELT, always a CELT. 🍀💚
It’s fair to say Juranovic’s spell at Celtic can be considered a success.
He arrived pretty cheaply, contributed heavily to two trophy wins, and became popular with supporters & teammates before leaving for a significant transfer profit.
If the Bhoys are about to pursue shorter player turnarounds in the transfer market, Juranovic could be viewed as a shining example. Especially when you consider the club have already signed his replacement.
It’s still early days for Alistair Johnston but the initial signs are positive and, at least domestically, Juranovic shouldn’t be missed too much. Anthony Ralston is also still at the club and has a big future ahead of him, having just turned 24.
Juranovic gave everything right up to his Celtic exit, impressing as recently as Wednesday night against St Mirren before Union made their official move.
He’s left the club in the correct manner and everyone will wish him success in German football.
