‘You will see’: Neil Lennon makes encouraging transfer claim about Brendan Rodgers & Celtic board

Neil Lennon thinks, before the 2023 summer transfer slams shut, Celtic will bring in ‘quality players’ for Brendan Rodgers.

The former Celtic boss even stated that Brendan Rodgers himself will ‘demand’ to the board that they upgrade his squad.

Rodgers hasn’t just come to win the Premiership crown again, but to elevate the team even higher in the Champions League, which Lennon touched upon, as he told PLZ Soccer.

Last season, under the services of now-Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou – who was praised by Roy Keane – the team managed two points from their Champions League campaign as they finished bottom.

In truth, the performances, especially the opening phases of the game, were far better than what is suggested on paper. 

But if Rodgers is to work his magic, then he needs help upstairs, which was spoken about by Bhoys legend, Lennon. 

“I totally agree with that (Rodgers’ remit is the UCL),” said Lennon. “Even if the squad wasn’t as good as it was last year, that tells you that it needs quality, for the Champions League.

“They got two points from the group last season. Fine. That was the first foray into the Champions League in four or five years, I get it, then you want to build on that, rather than go the other way.

“I think Brendan has come for the Champions League and to win the title again. I think, over the next ten days, you will see quality players coming in. He will demand that from the board.”

Can Celtic bring in faces from the Premier League?

Some Premier League stars, one well-known to the club, have been linked with possible transfers to Parkhead.

The one that has been doing the rounds is Kieran Tierney, with the 26-year-old looking for regular minutes, especially with Euro 2024 around the corner and every chance that Scotland will qualify.

Then there is Tottenham’s out-of-favour centre-back, Eric Dier, a former teammate of Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has also been mentioned in the transfer rumour mill.

On paper, he is a better player than Carter-Vickers, who is currently injured and would slot in straight away into the heart of the defence.

When it comes to attacking bite, Wolves’ flying winger Daniel Podence has also been talked about, it does seem as though he will leave, it’s just a case of if Celtic can afford to bring him on board.
