‘Ongoing process’ – Brondby director reveals how close Celtic target Mathias Kvistgaarden is to summer transfer

Celtic are after a striker and for a long time, Mathias Kvistgaarden looked like he would fit the bill.

Kvistgaarden almost joined Celtic in January only for nothing to materialise, but the expectation was that Brendan Rodgers would return with a summer offer.

After Brondby’s final game of the season Kvistgaarden appeared to wave goodbye to the fans as a bidding war between several clubs was waiting in the distance.

But, as we close in on July, he still remains in Denmark, however, Brondby director Benjamin Schmedes has provided some clarity on his situation.

Mathias Kvistgaarden transfer rumours latest

As per Herald Scotland, Schmedes confirmed that a number of clubs are interested in Kvistgaarden but they are no closer to finding him a move away.

He said: “It doesn’t surprise me that there is great interest in him from many teams, but I can’t say that he is close to being sold or that he is far from being sold either.

“That’s because it is an ongoing process and the most important thing is that we are very transparent in our dialogue with each other.”

Celtic were told it would be unlikely that Kvistgaarden would join them earlier this year.

How does Mathias Kvistgaarden compare to pending Celtic arrival Benjamin Nygren?

One player we do know will be joining from Denmark is Sweden international Benjamin Nygren.

It’s believed that Nygren will be confirmed on July 1 for a deal estimated to be around £1.2m.

He bagged 15 goals in 30 games in all competitions, but how does that compare to Kvistgaarden?

The stats between the two are extremely close and there’s not much to separate either of them. Another forward on top of Nygren is expected and if they can land Kvistgaarden too, this deadly duo will cause rivals plenty of problems.
