Bosun Lawal is attracting attention for his performances in English League One but is intent on pursuing a future at Celtic.
The Irish U21 international has scored three goals in his last six games for Fleetwood Town, thriving in a new midfield role after progressing at the Bhoys as a centre-back.
Fleetwood boss Charlie Adam has tipped him to have a big future in the game and reckons he has the right credentials to become a hit at Celtic Park.
Lawal signed a new contract at Celtic before departing on loan, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2026.
Now, the 20-year-old is setting his sights on returning to Brendan Rodgers’ squad and making a push into first-team plans, with Celtic said to be pleased with his progress down south.
Bosun Lawal on Celtic desire
Lawal said [Irish Independent, 16/03 print edition]: “Celtic are a big club and came in for me so I was interested straight away. I just want to progress and hopefully break into the first team to make a name for myself and my family.
“The contract was a big boost. I had been doing well in the academy and training with the first team but I felt like it was time for me to get out and get good first-team experience.
“Celtic are happy with the progress I’m making. The reason Celtic sent me out on loan was to play games, learn and hopefully come back ready to play for the first team. I’m enjoying it right now and just thankful it’s all coming together.

“I’ve learned I can play in a lot of different positions comfortably. My issue was always my concentration, so I think that has come on leaps and bounds too.”
It’s always been clear that Lawal’s loan exit was a development move, rather than shifting him off the books or paving the way for a permanent move.
The youngster will get a renewed opportunity to impress in pre-season and, now that he’s shown he can perform in midfield, it’ll be interesting to see what the manager has in store for him.
Lawal wouldn’t be the first young Celtic player to struggle on the fringes of the first team before going out on loan and returning with confidence to progress.
The Irish talent has impressive physical attributes. If he’s now adding a bit of composure, quality and – as he says – concentration to his game then there’s hope for him yet at the Bhoys.
