It’s not the way Celtic wanted it to end, but it was a display to be proud of.
Bayern Munich knocked Celtic out of the Champions League on Tuesday night after a cruel stoppage-time goal from Alphonso Davies.
With seconds left on the clock, Nicolas Kuhn’s second-half strike was sending the Champions League playoff tie into extra-time.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had sent shockwaves across Bavaria and the home side couldn’t believe their eyes because they were deservedly behind in the game.
But then, with seconds left, Michael Olise delivered a brilliant cross and it was headed towards goal by Leon Goretzka, only for Kasper Schmeichel to deny him with a brilliant save.
And that rebound was met by Davies and Celtic were left proud, but heartbroken as they crashed out.

Bayern Munich fans react to Kasper Schmeichel winning Man of the Match after Celtic defeat
To a man, every Celtic player should hold their heads up high because they were outstanding and deserved more on the night.
After the match, Schmeichel was awarded the Man of the Match and Bayern fans weren’t surprised by that call.
Some were questioning why opposition keepers are always MOTM against them, but others wanted to give the Denmark star his flowers for a great performance.

@fcbayernvero gave Celtic’s number one his flowers and stated: ‘He was amazing tbh, his team let him down’.

Schmeichel’s stats for Celtic against Bayern
Schmeichel’s dad, Peter, was in attendance at the Allianz Arena and he would have been proud of what his son produced.
The legendary Manchester United keeper won the Champions League in 1999 at Bayern’s expense, in the most dramatic of fashions, but now his son was on the wrong end of that.

Celtic are, once again, blessed in the goalkeeper department after Joe Hart retired in the summer.
Even though Hart was amazing for Celtic, the man who replaced him is an upgrade and it’s great to see that he has extended his stay in Glasgow.
