BBC pundits in agreement that Celtic ‘will have too much’ for Aberdeen

Celtic will battle it out with Aberdeen for the final domestic trophy of the season.

Brendan Rodgers wants to rewrite his legacy and could go a long way to doing that by securing another Treble.

If Rodgers wins at Hampden Park, he will become the only manager in Celtic’s history to win three domestic Trebles.

Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo will be hoping to start in the absence of Reo Hatate and James Forrest will look to back up his scoring feat and extend his stay at the top as Celtic’s most decorated player of all time.

Unsurprisingly the Hoops are the favourites for the contest and two former Celtic stars believe it is a foregone conclusion that they will be lifting the Scottish Cup at 5pm.

Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney predict narrow, but comfortable Celtic wins

The last meeting between these two saw Celtic hammer Aberdeen 5-1 with a team largely made up of second-string players.

It won’t be the same this time around and BBC pundits for the day, Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney, believe that it will be a much closer contest in terms of scoreline, but a predictable outcome.

Brown thinks Celtic will win 2-0, saying: “I think Celtic from an attacking point of view will have too much for Aberdeen. It’s difficult to look beyond a Celtic win because of that threat.”

Maloney went for the same verdict with a 3-1 victory for the Bhoys but thinks the course of the game will be much tighter than the repeat of the Pittodrie fixture.

“I anticipate that this game could be tighter than recent meetings, depending on how aggressively Aberdeen choose to defend without the ball,” said the former Bhoys midfielder.

“If the match unfolds similarly to previous encounters between these teams, Celtic are likely to score enough goals to secure the trophy and the treble.”

How many times have Celtic beaten Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final?

Celtic have a strong record against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final, winning four and losing three from seven meetings.

Their last meeting came back in 2017 when Tom Rogic’s late winner was enough to secure Rodgers’ first Treble as Celtic manager.

Callum McGregor is one of the few to remain from that day and he will be hoping for a repeat of that brilliant day eight years later.
